Nazmin Akthar: Lawyer and Muslim Feminist

Nazmin Akthar, Associate Editor and Correspondent for Cultural Affairs

StretLaw™ are proud to be the first to publish Nazmin Akthar’s work. Nazmin has provided insightful commentary into life as a Muslim, Feminist and Lawyer. As a result of this, Nazmin is now the Editor and Correspondent for Cultural Affairs at StretLaw™.

Nazmin was called to the Bar in 2010 after completing her law degree at Durham University in 2009 and then completing her BVC and Masters in Law at Northumbria University. She has spent the last two years being involved in various legal activities, including volunteering at a Law Centre for six months. She now works as a County Court Advocate.

Equality and diversity are matters close to her heart which is why she was heavily involved with Northumbria Student Union as a Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Student Representative, and was also an Area & Branch Union Representative in a Bank that she had previously worked for.  She continues to fiercely promote such work now and has recently become a Co-opted Board Member for Muslim Women’s Network UK.

She also has a slight obsession with Bollywood films and you will hear her humming songs on her way to and from Court.
